Aloha Barbara, I’m betting it does; I can’t imagine any reason why not – that’s why so many people on the ALT list I read are using MSM, and one reason why I’m going to begin using it myself. I can’t see how it could *hurt* in any way. To Dee – thanks for your kind words, I hope this helps your brother in law. Good health to all — Leola ~~  Keep in mind always the present you are constructing.  It should be the future you want. ~~      - Alice Walker

Aloha, A re-post for those recently asking about MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane). Be well, everyone, — Leola ————————————————— Disclaimer: The opinions stated in the following article may not represent those of the poster. As always, consult your medical practitioner. This is neither a recommendation nor an endorsement for this product. —————————————————- A good place to find out more is: http://www.nutriteam.com/msm.htm        Biological Sulfur and Your Health MSM was isolated by Robert Herschler and Dr. Stanley Jacob of the University of Oregon Medical School in the early 80’s. Their research revealed that MSM, or methylsulfonylmethane, is a natural sulfur compound found in all living things. It is actually the third most prominent compound in our bodies, just behind water and sodium. A 160 pound man has approximately 4 pounds of sulfur as body weight. Scientists almost missed MSM when studying nutritional needs because it plays such a small part in our food chain. However, in his research, Dr. Jacob determined that the sulfur in MSM, called sulfonyl, is as safe and as important as vitamin C in our diet, unlike the bad sulfurs: sulfas, sulfates, sulfites and sulfides. Why is MSM Important?  MSM originates in the ocean and reaches the human food chain through rainfall. It is the prime source of bio-available sulfur, which is lost from our food by processing, drying, cooking and preserving. MSM is an important nutrient (not a drug or medicine) and is a component of over 150 compounds. It is needed by the body for healthy connective tissues and joint function, proper enzyme activity and hormone balance, along with the proper function of the immune system. Because bio-nutritional sulfur plays such a major role in these healthy body functions and others, it was found that supplementation with MSM improves many health problems such as: allergies, asthma, emphysema, lung disfunction, arthritis, headaches, skin problems, stomach and digestive tract problems, circulation, cell osmosis and absorption. MSM acts as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory. It also inhibits muscle spasm and increases blood flow. MSM is critical to the formation of connective tissue of all types. MSM is a natural form of organic sulfur found in all living organisms, including human body fluids and tissues. Sulfur is found in many common foods, including raw milk, meat, fish and a variety of fruits, vegetables, and grains. However, processing, heating, storage, and preparation of foods destroys essential MSM sulfur. Without sufficient MSM sulfur in the body, unnecessary illness of varying types may result. Research has shown that MSM is helpful in improving joint flexibility, reducing stiffness and swelling, improving circulation and cell vitality, reducing pain and scar tissue, and in breaking up calcium deposits. According to Earl L. Mindell, R.Ph., Ph.D., MSM makes cells more permeable, enabling the body to flush out undesirable foreign particles.       "MSM softens the cell walls, allowing allergens, foreign proteins       and any free radicals to be moved out of the system," Mindell       states in his book, The MSM Miracle: Enhance Your Health with       Organic Sulfur."  MSM is an odorless, water-soluble, white crystalline material that supplies a bioavailable form of dietary sulfur, which plays a major role in stabilizing and promoting numerous body functions. MSM is responsible for the flexible bond between cells, including those that make up the skin. It acts to block undesirable chemical and physical cross-linking or bonding of collagen which is associated with tough, aging skin. Approximately half of the total body sulfur is concentrated in the body’s muscles, skin, and bones. It is present in keratin, the tough substance in the skin, nails and hair. Sulfur is necessary for making collagen, the primary constituent of cartilage and connective tissue, but it is also responsible for the conformation of body proteins through the formation of disulfide bonds, which hold connective tissue together. MSM does this in conjunction with vitamins and amino acids, and the process is going on 24 hours of every day. The body never stops making new cells, and this calls for an unceasing supply of MSM and all other essential nutrients. Tests conducted with laboratory animals indicated that wound healing occurred faster with a group receiving MSM, but even faster with both MSM and vitamin C supplementation. Beth M. Ley, in her book, MSM: Our Way Back to Health With Sulfur, lists common signs of sulfur deficiency, including slow wound healing, scar tissue, brittle hair or nails, gastrointestinal problems, arthritis, acne, depression, and more. "The body is in a constant state of repair, but if we do not have all the necessary ‘parts’", says Ley, the body will "produce weak, dysfunctional cells."          Think of it in terms of making concrete: one guy brings water,          one guy brings sand, and the other guy brings the cement. You          have what you need to make concrete, but the guy bringing the          cement keeps taking a break because he’s tired. The final mixture or          product you have is adobe and not concrete. So when cells are          dying in a hurry and you’re not giving your body the right          balance of building materials, you start losing the flexibility in all          kinds of body cells and start building up foreign proteins and          free radicals in both cells and body fluids. MSM insufficiency can          result in an incredible number of disorders. MSM is non-allergenic, non-pyretic, and has no interfering or undesirable pharmacological effects. You cannot overdose with MSM – the body will use what it needs and flush out the rest without harm. Because it is also a free radical and foreign protein scavenger, MSM cleans the blood stream, so allergies to foods or pollens can be eliminated, sometimes in just a few days. MSM is not a vitamin, nor a drug. It is a member of the sulfur family but should never be confused with sulfa drugs or DMSO. MSM is odorless, and does not produce intestinal gas or body odor, which may occur with other forms of sulfur. The formation of Keratin for hair and nail growth is dependent on MSM. MSM is also necessary for the catalytic functions of many enzymes, as they work with glutathione to regenerate vitamin C. MSM is therefore more important in the ‘antioxidant network’ than previously understood. Studies suggest that the level of MSM in the body decreases with aging. As a dietary supplement, MSM is recommended for neutralizing and eliminating toxins as well as alleviating conditions of environmental and food allergies, pain from inflammatory disorders, gastrointestinal ailments, and infection. "MSM works – that’s true," says pain expert and assistant clinical professor at the UCLA School of Medicine, Ronald Lawrence, M.D., PhD. "But how it works … has not been proven." In a double-blind study of MSM’s impact on degenerative arthritis, Lawrence found that patients who ingested 2,250mg(two tablets, below) of MSM a day for six weeks felt an improvement in their pain reduction by 82 percent, on average. "I’ve been practicing medicine for 50 years, and in all those years, I’ve never seen a substance like this," he says. Researchers are not sure if MSM is so effective for arthritis because of its sulfur content, because of its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, or because of some yet-undiscovered mechanism. Some researchers are pointing to MSM as the possible explanation for why some cancers go into spontaneous remission. The answer here may lie in MSM’s ability to assist in moving free radicals and foreign proteins out of the system. A study published in 1986 showed that MSM was "effective in the chemoprevention of … mammary cancers." (Study by Dr. D. McCabe, Dr. P.  O’Dwyer, Dr. B. Sickle-Santanello, Dr. E. Woltering, Dr. H. Abou-Issa and Dr.  A. James, published in the Archives of Surgery, 12/1986 According to a forthcoming book by Lawrence, Jacob, and Zucker, entitled The Miracle of MSM, MSM can be a natural remedy for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, tendonitis and bursitis, muscular soreness and athletic injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, post-traumatic inflammation and pain, heartburn and hyperacidity, headaches and back pain, and allergies. People taking MSM may notice other benefits, including softer skin, harder nails, thicker hair, and softening of scar tissue. Unlike aspirin, which offers immediate pain relief, MSM may take 2 – 4 weeks before you have significant improvement. "Except in rheumatoid patients – they’ve felt differences in just one day, and certainly by three or four days," according to Dr.  Lawrence.                Dr. Lawrence has treated more than 1,000 patients with MSM. According to Lawrence, "It’s safer than water."  Patients at the Oregon Health Sciences University who have received oral MSM as part of their treatment show no toxic build-up, even after years of ingesting more than 2,000mg of MSM each day. It appears that the body uses what it requires and flushes out the rest within 12 hours. "The effects of MSM on rheumatoid arthritis almost mimic that of cortisone," says Dr. Lawrence, "and it’s more effective for allergies than antihistamines – without the side effects."                Scar Tissue:

Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid)

Question:

I suffer from kidney stones in addition to CD, and was told to lay off Vitamin C (other than the minimum requuired to avoid scurvy :-/) because it can be harmful to my kidneys. When my kidneys were in poor shape, my stool was much more liquid. Could there be some link between the diarrhea suffered by some people taking mega-doses of vitamin C and kidney dysfunction? Inquiring minds want to know! Daniel Pfeffer

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin. This makes it an ideal anti-oxidant that primarily works within the water environments of the body, which may be both inside and outside the cell.as a vitamin its major role is the manufacturing of collagen, which is an essential protein substance of the body. The best food sources of vitamin C are citrus fruits but can also be found in broccoli, potatoes, and brussel sprouts. Vitamin C is the most common vitamin supplement in America. This is in a large part due to Linus Pauling. The documented benefits of vitamin C are primarily because of its potent antioxidant activity and ability to boost the immune system. The medical literature shows to get the best results from supplementing Vitamin C we need to supplement with more than 1 gram of vitamin C each day. Vitamin C has been shown to improve the lung function in asthma, emphysema, and cystic fibrosis. It elevates HDL cholesterol It lowers blood pressure There is a significant decrease in the risk of several cancers, especially lung, gastrointestinal, cervical, and pancreatic cancers. It decreases the incidence of cataracts and macular degeneration

A question:  How many of us here can tolerate citrus fruit in any quantity? Or juice for that matter.  I certainly can’t – eating an orange or drinking a glass of orange juice is as much of a guarantee of a flare for me as eating a pizza.

I like citrus, but it doesn’t like me!  Lately I have been able to have a little bit, though. It seems like all of the natural sources of vitamin C (in significant quantities) are terribly irritating to those of us who have IBD.  To make matters worse, very high doses of vitamin C can cause diarrhea in some people. I just take my generic multivitamins and call it a day. Love, "Whatever you can do or imagine, begin it;   Boldness has beauty, magic, and power in it."                 ~~Goethe~~

Do not get suckered into paying more for that Ester-C label… Ester-C contains no exotic compounds that make it superior. It is mainly regular calcium ascorbate, which is well known to be more effective than ascorbic acid…Save yourself some pocket change and get a better vitamin out of the process by just purchasing a calcium, zinc, magnesium, and potaasium ascorbates…

RSD & Radio Frequency

Question:

P.S. I forgot that your husband also had RSD. Unfortunately, chronic uncontrolled RSD is very high risk for heart attack, can you imagine the risk WITH sleep apnea ? On the other hand, I saved a 67 year old man with severe back pain, requiring hospitalization, with methadone ! It seemed that with the control of his severe pain, he only had a very small heart attack, versus a complete one, if his pain had continued. He ended having multiple myeloma of his spine, that was treated acutely with radiation therapy and steroids. Then, we simoly weaned him off his narcotics in 1 week. Obviously, any medicine can be good and then same medicine can be bad. What you ALWAYS need is a trained medical doctor to prescribe your medications. And, always use one doctor for any of your pain medications, preferably a pain medicine doctor. Good-night again…I truly enjoy giving my two cents in this NG…but that all it is…you always have to check with your OWN doctor !

Dr. Gatell Nice to meet you. I used to be on this list a long time ago. I was reading with interest the letters on RSD and also your suggestions of pain medications. I think that along with your suggestions of pain medications you should also give some warnings as to the possible effects on some people (my opinion guys, sorry, not trying to start anything). The reason I say this is because my husband suffered from RSD for 6 long years. He passed away this last June. He had been on Methadone only 4 days. He was only 41 years old. I have talked with several well known RSD doctors, who have told me two things. If a person has sleep apnea, methadone may cause them not to come out of their apnea effect due to the drug getting stronger (time release or whatever you call it). Also that this drug can cause you to have a sleep apnea and you dont come out of it. I’m not a doctor, but I do feel people should be warned of the effects of this drug. On the other hand I know people who are on Methadone , swear by it and love it. It helps them and Im glad. No one should suffer needlessly if there is something that helps. We just weren’t that lucky I guess. Again, I dont mean to step on any toes, but had to comment on this. My suggestion has always been to everyone, listen to advice, and then research any and all meds first. GREAT drug for nerve (neuropathic) pain, along with methadone, neurontin and amitryptiline. However, I try to avoid anti-depressants unless pain is associated with the chronic pain…but, then I usually get the pain better and the depression is usually gone !

Opioids do improve neuropathic pain, especially methadone because it also specifically stimulates the neuropathic receptors (NMDA) ! The old theory about narcotics not helping neuropathic pain are just untrue, especially when combined with the other medicines mentioned above.

I also have this question.  I have a lot of nerve pain from multiple sclerosis. Baclofen is useless, Neurontin is out because I have ulcerative colitis.  All NSADs are out for the same reason. Tylenol 3 helps a little, but I can only take so much.  Oh yeah, Klonopin doesn’t do a thing for the pain either.  Just a relaxer. Kathi

I am sorry about your husband…usually when I say what I do for patients, it is based on thorough medical evaluation. What you say is absolutely true about any narcotic, or central nervous system depressant of any type, including alcohol, and sleep apnea. I have said in the past, you should always check with your doctor about any drug, or information you come across in books or the Internet. Also, always check with your personal doctor for the risks, benefits and alternatives… Just because I say that my favorite medication for so and so, does not mean that there not risks with any drugs. That is why you have to have a prescription for these medications, with tight control by the DEA and Medical Boards, Thank God ! But, I do understand how you must feel…I do have a patient with sleep apnea and methadone for his severe post-orchiectomy  pain with MSIR for escape pain. He does not have any other risk factors such as morbid obesity, severe asthma, emphysema, pulmonary hypertension, heart disease, or anemia. If he did have any of the other risk factors, I don’t think that I would continued him on any potent potentially central depressants… I also have sleep apnea, and that worries my wife when I stop breathing…My wife said I would gasp for air every night and would stop breathing for a long time. I have lost about 12 pounds over the last 2 months with simple positive thinking and watching my calories.  This help correct my lipid profile and I have less snoring and almost no apnea – as per my very happy wife ! However, because I am still overweight and probably have sleep apnea, I am still at a high risk for sudden death. Luckily, I do not have severe chronic pain, that would require me and my doctor to weight my risks, benefits and alternatives for pain relief. Before I lost the weight, I guess I really did not care about my sleep apnea and high risk for sudden death. My rationale was if I did have sudden death, it would best be in my sleep.  And, if I had very severe pain, I would probably have taken the chance with the methadone. I know that your Husband has returned home to God, like we all must do eventually. This is why I try to live my life to the fullest… Speaking of this, I think I have to spend time now with my family, and stop writing some much here… Thanks again for your input…I will try to remember to warn people to discuss the risk, benefits and alternatives with their doctor… Perhaps then, we should all place this warning when we discuss medications or treatments on this NG, I don’t know…what do you think ? Good-night… JG I guess the reason I have not done  .

[save message for later reference] Information on a natural dietary supplement called MSM, or methylsulfonylmethane MSM: An Essential Dietary Sulfur! MSM was first isolated by Robert Herschler, working for Crown Zellerbach in Portland, Oregon. Both he and Dr. Stanley Jacob of the University of Oregon Medical School, have done extensive research and testing on this exciting substance. MSM, or methylsulfonylmethane, is a natural, organic sulfur compound, found in all living things. This form of organic sulfur is the forth most prevalent mineral in the human body. In his research, Dr. Jacob determined that the sulfur in MSM, called sulfonyl, is as safe and as important as vitamin C in our diet, unlike the bad sulfurs: sulfa, sulfate, sulfite and sulfide. Sulfur a Major Key To Health: MSM comes from the ocean and is a prime source of bio-available sulfur, which is lost from our food because of storage, processing, drying, cooking and preserving. MSM is an important food (not a drug or medicine) and plays many roles in the body, including the stimulation of the growth of healthy skin, hair and nails. It is needed by the body for healthy connective tissues and joint function, proper enzyme activity and hormone balance, along with the proper function of the immune system. Because bio-nutritional sulfur plays such a major role in these healthy body functions and others, Doctors Herschler and Jacob found that supplementation with MSM can improve many conditions such as: allergies, asthma, emphysema, lung dysfunction, arthritis, head aches, skin problems, stomach problems, digestive tract problems, circulation, cell osmosis and absorption. What MSM Does: MSM makes cell walls permeable, allowing water and nutrients to freely flow into cells and allowing wastes and toxins to properly flow out. The building blocks of the body, amino acids, are all sulfur binders and play a major role in the production of hormones and enzymes which regulate the body’s activities. MSM and vitamin C are used by the body together to build healthy new cells. MSM provides the flexible bond between the cells. Without MSM, the new cell is not permeable, and osmosis is hampered. These cells lose their flexibility, like scar tissue, wrinkles, vericose veins, hardened arteries or the damaged lung tissues of a person with emphysema. Conditions Aggravated by MSM Deficiency: Allergies Sore Joints and Muscles Chronic Fatigue Elevated Cholesterol Candida ‘Yeast’ Infections Soft & Chipping Nails, Hair Loss Wrinkles Scar Tissue Lung Dysfunction Diabetes Ulcers Migraine Headaches Alzheimer’s Diverticulosis Scar Tissue: Burn victim, Bill Rich, discovered MSM for himself when a veterinarian friend had him try MSM. Bill’s explains that his skin was flat, purple and leathery, up and down a majority of the right side of his body. After only a few days of taking MSM, Bill noticed an increase of stamina and energy, and over time an astonishing effect on his scarred skin as it started to turn pink and fill in. Now Bill has little more than a small section of skin that is still barely detectable after having more than 60 feet of skin graft scars. After years of using MSM and helping others, Bill Rich lectures in the benefits of MSM. Wrinkles: When the body replaces old skin cells, if there is a deficiency of MSM, the new cells can be stiff and contribute to wrinkling. MSM supplementation can help the body replace bad cells with good, healthy, elastic cells. Over time, wrinkles can go away, and brown and black spots and skin tumors can flow away as new cells replace the bad. Damaged Skin: It is the MSM in Aloe Vera leaves that sooths and repairs skin that has been cut, scraped, burned or damaged. The body then is able to repair the skin with the proper raw materials. Lung Dysfunction: Bill Rich says that emphysema is not caused by smoking. Horses and dogs get emphysema, and they don’t smoke! It is a deficiency of MSM that causes this condition, and supplementation of MSM can reverse it. Diabetes: Even diabetics that have been ‘on the needle’ for years can benefit from MSM supplementation. Bill Rich sites several examples of his friends that are now self regulating since they have discovered MSM. Sore Joints and Muscles: Testimonials of many athletes attest to the ability of MSM to increase athletic stamina and eliminate sore muscles! MSM increases the ability of the body to eliminate wastes and toxins from the cells. Ulcers: Ulcers, caused by too much stomach acids can be reversed by MSM supplementation. Tagament covers up the symptoms, doing nothing to relieve the problem. MSM corrects the problem. Migraine Headaches: Women don’t have the headaches, hot flashes, cramps and nausea associated with the monthly cycle when they use MSM. Even migraine headaches can melt away. Alzheimer’s: Bill Rich theorizes that Alzheimer’s is caused by aluminum and lythium salts that are trapped in the brain causing the electrical impulses to be ’shorted’ out, so they aren’t going on the right path. Without proper circulation and the detoxification of MSM, this condition robs millions of their golden years. MSM facilitates the body’s ability to clean out these toxins. Allergic Reactions: MSM is an Anti-Venom that can quickly bind up foreign proteins such as snake bites, flea bites, black widow bites, bee stings and mosquito bites. MSM is also an anti-oxidant that detoxifies the body. Candida Infections, Chronic Fatigue: Candida is a yeast that normally lives in the colon. If body pH gets out of whack, Candida can spread to other areas in the body. If the body pH is right, Candida cannot live outside the colon. Women sometimes get Candida yeast infections. When the doctor prescribes an antibiotic, that can send the body pH further off kilter and the Candida can spread. The white coating on the tongue is Candida. It can even get into the brain, where it is called epilepsy. In the blood, Candida will rob the nutrition and energy away from the body, causing a so called ‘incurable’ disease called Chronic Fatigue. When the body burns energy it produces toxins, if toxins aren’t properly removed, this is the result. Bill Rich explains how MSM can take care of this disease of the 90’s. Cholesterol: Bill exclaims that if your body is functioning like it should, cholesterol will not be a problem. Your body will regulate it naturally. By taking MSM as a supplement, Bill can eat what he pleases and his cholesterol count is always normal. Diverticulosis: Diverticulosis is where the large intestine gets sluggish, clogged, and quits pulsing properly. The feces stop moving properly, and nutrition is not passed through the intestine walls. MSM smoothes the coating of the intestine with a Teflon like coating, and the feces start moving properly. Diverticulosis is an MSM and Vitamin C deficiency. Additional Benefits of MSM: MSM has been found to improve athletic performance and is a tremendous energy booster. MSM will cause your nails to grow twice as fast, and you will find that your hair will be thicker and healthier. Finger nails have more sulfur in them than any other part of the body!       End  of  message .. End  of  message ___ Blue Wave/386 v2.30 [NR]

Deep Breathing Exercises and Health

Question:

The correct address for "Breathing as a Metaphor for Living," the audio program by Dennis Lewis, is <http://www.breath.org/breathing-metaphor-1/.

Response:

If they are based on the natural laws of the mind and body, deep breathing exercises can have a powerful beneficial influence on our overall health and well-being. They can help us with heart disease, anxiety, pain control, high blood pressure, digestive problems, asthma, emphysema, sleep disorders, premature aging, and many other chronic problems. To be beneficial, however, deep breathing exercises must help us relax; they must not create more tension.

For this to be possible, we need to learn how to sense ourselves from the inside, to sense unnecessary tension in our efforts and to learn how to let go of this tension. Cancer treatement – Hydrogen-peroxide?

Question:

I would like to know if it is Hydrogen-peroxide that is used in theropy for cancer and does it help Cullen

I have no reliable information on this, but I believe the use of Hydrogen-peroxide (H2O2) in medicine comes under the heading of "oxygen therapy" and involves putting very small amounts of the substance in bath water or a humidifier and/or extremely small amounts (dropwise??) into drinking water in an effort to increase the amount of ozygen available in the blood, which many apparently believe to be an effective treatment for cancer.  Quite a while ago I read an article which claimed that some natural spring waters, particularly those that are credited with healing powers, have a naturally high content of H2O2. It seems like I saw a reference to an oxygen therapy homepage somewhere in this newsgroup recently.  You might want to have a look for it. Tookie Myers wrcom/ – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Mr. Scudamore, I had been reading your posts with some interest and was wondering why you were being a target of some rather pointed attacks. I’m afraid I now see why. Peroxides are deleterious to living organisms in any form. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been used in wound repair for some time, but it si of short duration and very carefuly monitored. High levels of oxygen in tissues over long terms is exceedingly deleterious. No "studies" are going to be able to cover up these simple physiological facts. The only way that Proctor and Gamble is able to market its "Mentadent" product is through political pressure as the FDA is well aware that continued use of peroxide on the gingival mucosa id not healthy, but large corporations have often been able to get away with marketing subclinically dangerous and unhealthy products for many years. Alcohol is directly linked to oral cancer and most mouth rinses contain alcohol, some contain more than a good wine. I can state from a position of authority with a good knowledge of physioligy and biochemistry that peroxides would not be a good choice of treatment for cancer unless one could totally isolate the tumor and expose it only. Of course, if we could do that it would be simpler just to remove it. M. W. Myers, D.V.M.

Dear Tookie, There are thousands of folk out there claiming "positions of authority".  Most of them are engaged in cancer chemotherapy research proving that toxic drugs DON’T cure cancer.  These great figures of authority then proclaim cancer is incurable, and that every other cancer therapy is useless. I give people the information and they can make up their own minds.  I don’t expect people to prescribe for themselves without proper medical advice such as from Michael Schachter, M.D.: Hydrogen Peroxide (H202)-This is a natural substance made by normal healthy human cells in the body to regulate metabolism and act as a poison to destroy invaders. The procedure used at the Schachter Center for cancer patients consists of adding pure hydrogen peroxide to a 250-ml sugar-water solution (5% dextrose in water to form a weak solution of 0.03% hydrogen peroxide) and infusing it slowly into a vein over a period of 1 to

Response:

Finger  nails have more sulfur in them than any other part of the body! .. Oxygen: Literally the Breath of Life!

Question:

Sounds like an advertisment to me. I get harrassed when I promote a product. So aerobic oxygen? Isn’t that redundant? This also sounds like the same idea that an HIV pos. acquaintence of mine used to believe in when he added drops of diluted hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to his juice. Trust me when I say this…adding "oxygenated" stuff to beverages won’t increase blood oxygen levels.  The stomach acid (HCl) will bond with the free oxygen or you will just burp. If even on the slightest chance you could increase the blood oxygen levels, your blood pH would change and you could possibley die. Jack Siegel BS Geology, Chem. Minor

OXYGEN:  Literally the Breath of Life!         Oxygen is the single most important chemical compound found in our solar system.  Its presence in our atmosphere is what enables our planet to sustain life, and its presence in our bodies on the cellular level can mean the difference between good health and a sickly existence.  Oxygen energizes cells so they can regenerate, and it combines with other substances in the body, a process known as oxidation, to destroy excess or toxic materials which devastate bodily functions and deplete the body of life-giving energy.         Yet, just as scientists and health experts are beginning to uncover the importance of having an adequate supply of oxygen for a healthy body and a sound mind, environmental pollutants and deforestation are robbing the precious element from the very air we breathe, the water we drink, and even the food we eat.  To make matters worse, the hectic pace of our stressed-out, anxiety-inducing society further depletes our own internal reservoir of this odorless, colorless and tasteless substance that is so essential for our survival.         But science may have devised a solution to help turn the tide in the struggle for improved cellular oxidation.  Until recently, the only way for the body to obtain oxygen was through breathing, but now researchers claim to have isolated the compound and can offer it in the form of a supplement.         A report from the prestigious Robert W. Bradford Research Institute, by Rodrigo Rodriquez, M.D. and the Medical Director of American Biologics Hospitals, concluded that oxygen can be stabilized in a beneficial non-toxic form, and several companies have been established that are blazing a trail in this new market.  New technology that has been developed stabilizes oxygen in both liquid and tablet form, allowing for more convenient dosages and further adding to the product’s appeal.         To anyone who is still skeptical about the benefits of taking an oxygen supplement, Ed McCabe, author of Oxygen Therapies,  and a pioneer in the use of stabilized oxygen, says: "Nature’s constant seeking of equilibrium is beautifully illustrated in the phenomenon where someone states an opinion or fact, and immediately there appears on the scene someone with the opposite opinion or fact (Oxygen Therapies p. 72)."         He goes on to say that any bad press he has seen regarding oxygen "is only a lack of viewing a larger picture," and he urges anyone who is "still unsure about the health benefits that will evolve from oxygenating a deficient body properly," to track down the experts to find out for themselves how oxygen supplements can assist the body’s own process of oxygenation.     Since stabilized oxygen is not classified as a drug, it can’t be prescribed for any particular illness or health problem.  But evidence shown by researchers like McCabe and Rodriquez suggests that by increasing the amount of oxygen in a person’s blood, the potential for oxygenation is also increased. There are several positive effects of increased oxygenation, and many uses for any oxygen supplement.  The following, taken from published sources, is a list of some of the ways oxygen can help improve the quality of life for both the athlete and the average person. PURIFICATION OF FLUIDS         Aerobic oxygen can purify liquids such as drinking water, and experienced travelers and vacationers have used it for years to kill the bacteria and organisms which fester in the drinking water of countries like Mexico and India.         Approximately five drops of aerobic oxygen added to eight ounces of water, juice, milk, etc, is sufficient to purify the liquid and eliminate additives like chlorine and kill bacteria.  For liquids that are going to be stored for a longer time, 20 drops is recommended to ensure that it remains pure. INFECTION AND BACTERIA         A lab report from Baylor Research Foundation states that aerobic oxygen is successful in killing several forms of anaerobic bacteria: Streptococcus, Guardia Lamblia, Salmonella, Cholera, E. coli, Pseudomonas and Staphylococcus, among others.         Vaginal infections and disorders can also be cured by adding aerobic oxygen to water to make an effective douche. ENERGY LEVEL INCREASE         One of the differences between an athlete’s body and that of a person who receives very little exercise, is the amount of oxygen which pulsates through the blood in their bodies.  As stated earlier, oxygen is vital for the life and energy of cells, and without it cells begin to become unhealthy and weak.  It is only logical to assume that a body rich in its supply of oxygen will have more nourishment and therefore, more energy. EMPHYSEMA, ASTHMA         Anyone who has experienced the trauma of the loss of breath associated with asthma, emphysema or sinus disorders already knows how important oxygen is to the body.  People with poor lung activity can help improve their condition by passing the bronchial passages, which are often restricted, and fortifying the blood directly with an oxygen supplement.         People who smoke can also help to alleviate the effects of smoke damage and oxygen deprivation caused by cigarettes by taking an oxygen supplement daily.     Only $19.95/Bottle!!        N106 — Syntra-Gen        (Stabilized Liquid Oxygen)        To order call toll-free:        1-800-243-0963  ext. 13678-PC For more information go to: http://www.readbiotech.com Thank you for taking the time to read this article.
