Its too hot!

Question:

Look at this site — the perfect for arthur types, pool. Sigh….  I am still dreaming that when we redo the downstairs bathroom, I can somehow talk my husband into finding a space, building a space, and putting this on my list. I really really want this pool. http://www.endlesspools.com/ sigh Caroline – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Gosh, you have a local pool.  I will kill to have a local pool.  I am trying to talk Ed into putting in an above ground pool.  So far no dice. It is unbelieveble. it is really hot in Holland!!! For a few days already. Off course, at the end of each day, we have to deal with rain and thunder again… but the most of the day it is HOT. hey, do you feel too, that when it is hot, all the joints seem to be swelling? Wendy

Off course, at the end of each day, we have to deal with rain and thunder again… but the most of the day it is HOT. hey, do you feel too, that when it is hot, all the joints seem to be swelling? Usually, I get the swelling when the barometer is dropping quickly or the humidity is very high.  Today it was 90 F in Harrisburg, PA with average humidity.  I decided at the beginning of this week that I wouldn’t complain about the heat.  I complained about the damp cold through the winter so I think it’s a little ingenuous if I complain when the heat finally gets here.  This afternoon, when I stopped to visit some folks at the hospital I sat in my car in the parking lot and actually enjoyed the feeling of heat in my body:-) Others were "ouching" at the heat of the steering wheel–to me it was like a hot parafin treatment–glorious!! God bless, John W

My husband thinks I am nuts too.   All winter I had the ceiling fan in our bedroom going, to keep the air moving.  If the air isnt moving, I feel like I cant breathe. Char

Yep……same here.  Jeannette

Response:

It’s hot here, too, and supposed to get hotter. I’ve had the AC on for two days. One thing I cannot stand is heat. I will never move back to Florida because of that. (Although DC area gets pretty hot on its own!) Chill out, sweetie! DeeTee – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Can you believe that it is already too hot in the house tonight and we had to put on the air conditioning cuz I was unable to sleep?  I went to bed around 9:15 and tossed and turned and and tossed and turned cuz our bedroom was too warm.  Ed came to bed about 11:00 and I said I needed the air on so he turned it on.  So now I am down in the basement waiting for the bedroom to cool off. I cannot sleep in a warm room.  Even in the winter I am blowing fans and the window is slightly open. Menopause is a bitch for the woman and the spouse.  He is usually freezing and I am hot.  We have resorted to sleeping with twin quilts and sheets in a Queen bed cuz I have restless leg and thrash alot plus he is always cold and I am warm.  This way we can control our own body warmth needs.  Can anybody else relate to this? I also cracked a rib yesterday.  I decided to move this large dresser mirror out of the closet because it was blocking something I needed to get to.  Now today I am having pains in my right ribs.  I did this a few times last year too.  They did x-rays and bone scans and found some hair line fractures.  I did it then from coughing and moving stuff for a rummage sale.  And I was doing so good!!  Actually, my old PCP who left to work for the Oneida Tribe of Indians taught me a trick to help the pain and healing.  You are not suppose to wrap up your ribs so he put tape (paper for me) in strips across the ribs which prevented movement when I was moving around.  It helps alot.  Three strips right under my right breast.  It only takes a few weeks to heal but I will have to take it easy on moving stuff around.  Damn, I hate that when it happens.  No rest for the wicked you know so I must be a pretty dang wicked one.  I should be knocked out by now after taking darvocet and klonopin but I feel wide awake.  My stepdaughter Jenny is out and about again tonight too and I always worry until she gets home.  This weekend their mother is getting married so the kids will be busy with the wedding.  Sunday night we are all going to Green Bay to Brett Fvare Steak House for my stepson Kris’ 25th birthday.  My stepdaughter will be 21 in November.  I can’t stand it…….they are growing up way too fast.  Before I know it, I will be a grandma.  Kris married Sheila in 10/98, bought a house this fall so the next step will be coming within the next few years.  Everybody calls me Nettie so I guess I will be Grandma Nettie.  It is funny because that was my nickname when I was little and when my stepson was first getting to know me, he nicknamed me that.  Another proof of "Things are Meant to Be", don’t you think? Anyway, I guess I will read the postings and answer a few more then try going back to bed to sleep. Blessings, Jeannette P.S.  I already said my prayers for ya-all!!!

DeeTee: I am chilled out……we’ve had the air on since last night and it has been very very comfortable. Jeannette

Response:

We have had the cooling on & off & on since March here in central Arkansas. April was cooler than March this year. With my kids’ asthma & my hot flashes I turn it down. Jack flipped when he saw the power bill so I went a bought a couple of more fans for the rooms with out ceiling fans. The boys rooms don’t have ceiling fans because of the amount of stuff that flies through the air in their rooms. LOL Our local pool doesn’t open til June(after school gets out) I don’t know if I can make it. Belinda

Ali: It doesn’t take much for me to fracture a rib. My bone density test indicated that my fine bones are losing density but my large bones are in good condition.  This will be the fifth rib fracture since last year.  They are hair line fractures and heal within a month or so.   I know I should not be doing that stuff but a girl’s gotta do what a girls gotta do!!  It was blocking my linen cabinet and we can’t have that now can we?  LOL Thanks for your concern.  Jeannette

Response:

Jeannette, My husband and I played the blanket tango for about 2 years.(I’m 49)    He swore he would be dying of hypothermia and I just knew I would die from heat stroke.  I was afraid to use any hormones because  my Mom died of breast cancer.  The doctor finally convinced me I would be OK.  I’ve only been taking them since February and I can’t believe I waited so long.  Now we can cuddle again!  Jeannie

I am having night sweats and I blame the RA.  I thought this is one of the symptoms.  I use the estrogen patch and that helps some. Zyrtec

Question:

Hello, everyone!  I’m a first-time poster, so bear with me.  I have a 10-month old with what seem to be allergies (constant runny nose/sneezing/itchy, watery eyes).  Her pediatrician prescribed Pediacare and Dimetapp, which we tried with little success.  The dr. has given us samples of both Claritin and Zyrtec (liquid) to try, but informed me that they were not yet approved by the FDA for use in infants, which worries me. My question is, has anyone used or have knowledge of infants using either Claritin or Zyrtec–if so, what have the benefits/side effects been?  Any advice? Thanks in advance for your help. Jeanna

Depending on the particular formulation you have, Pediacare is probably pseudoephedrine, a decongestant. Dimetapp is probably brompheniramine, an antihistamine. Claritin and Zyrtec are non-sedating antihistamines. Doctors can prescribe drugs ‘off-label’. I kind of doubt Claritin or Zyrtec would work if brompheniramine doesn’t help but I doubt there is a safety issue. It sounds like your infant has rhinitis, which could be allergic or nonallergic. Link: http://www.aaaai.org/media/pressreleases/2000/11/110800.html Keeping your kids asthma and allergy free "Preventing Allergic Rhinitis Allergic rhinitis, or hay fever, is triggered by allergens, or  airborne irritants such as pollen, mold, animal dander or dust  mites. This causes sneezing, a runny nose and itchy eyes.  Approximately 50 million Americans suffer from some form of  allergic disease. Allergic diseases develop at any age, and  heredity plays a key role in who will develop an allergy. If  one parent has an allergic disease, the estimated risk of the  child developing allergies is 48%; if both parents have  allergies, the child’s risk jumps to 70%. "It’s impossible to completely eliminate all the things that might  trigger a child’s allergies, but taking steps to delay the child’s exposure to certain allergens may  help," said David Patterson, M.D., Fellow of the AAAAI. To  help reduce the risk for developing allergic rhinitis,  allergists recommend you take the following steps to reduce the levels of allergens in your home:            Dust Mites                 use zippered, plastic covers on pillows and mattresses  to reduce the presence of dust mites,                 minimize the number of stuffed animals kept in the  bedroom,                 remove carpet from the child’s bedroom,                 wash bedding and stuffed animals in hot water  (130 1F) weekly and                 keep indoor relative humidity below 50% to  inhibit dust mite growth.            Indoor Mold                 fix leaky faucets and pipes,                 avoid vaporizers and                 reduce indoor humidity to less than 50%.            Cockroach allergens                 do not leave food or garbage exposed and                 use boric acid traps.            Animal dander                 remove furry pet from the home to prevent exposure  particularly in the first year of life,            If the pet can not be removed from the home                 keep the pet out of the infant’s bedroom,                 frequently vacuum rooms where the pet lives and                 wash the pet weekly to decrease the amount of dander, urine and dried saliva. Preventing Food Allergies Approximately 2-4% of children experience allergic reactions to  foods. The most common food, responsible for up to 90% of all allergic reactions, are cow’s milk, eggs, peanuts,  wheat, soy, fish, seafood and tree nuts. Allergic reactions to food may produce symptoms such as hives or  eczema. Food allergy suffers may also experience symptoms such as sneezing, vomiting, stomach cramps,  diarrhea and difficulty breathing. An allergist/immunologist can provide you with more information on  preventing allergies and asthma. If you suspect your child has  allergies or asthma, an allergist can diagnose and treat allergies  and asthma in your child.
